Firefox 3.5

• Released June 2009 (twelve months after Firefox 3.0)
• SVG now live to ID changes

• SVG effects apply to non-SVG content [demo, demo, demo, demo, demo]
• @font-face supports same-domain TTF/OTF fonts (CORS escape)
• Mouse interaction with transformed foreignObject fixed [demo]
• Support for the 'image-rendering' property
  Includes feImage, CSS background images, and HTML images, videos and canvas
• HTML 5 audio and video elements (supported in foreignObject) [demo]
• Bug fixes (gradients, filters, masking), performance improvements and a lot of refactoring

Firefox 3.6

• Likely to be released end of 2009 (six months after Firefox 3.5)
• Support for WOFF with @font-face
• Support for allowReorder="yes" on the 'switch' element
• Support for the CSS 'clip' property in SVG
• Support for 'pointer-events: none' on non-SVG content
• Shipping disabled, SVG capable, HTML 5 parser [demo] (set "html5.enable" to true in about:config)
• Support for '-moz-linear-gradient' and '-moz-radial-gradient'
• More bug fixes and refactoring

SVG Fonts

• First, let's take a look at TTF/OTF/WOFF
• Web fonts has a long, fiery history
• WOFF (formerly WebOTF) looking like a winner
• Same domain restriction with Cross-Origin Resource Sharing relaxation
• Combined HTML and SVG demo
• SVG Fonts:
• Required for Acid3 (SMIL and HTML5 parser other large missing pieces)
• Pros: very flexible (not just an outline, and dynamic)
• Cons: very slow, incomplete solution, and poor complex script support
• Unsure when we will support, or how much demand there is over WOFF

Implementer test collaboration

• Cross implementation authoring has historically been "an exercise in extreme hair-pulling"
• Independent vendor testing is simply not good enough
• Many attempts at multi-implementer regression testing
• Real success requires buy-in from implementers, W3C, community
• Many issues: politics/social/format/organization/review/tools/sync/etc.
• W3C/multi-implementer automated testing project is getting started
• Many issues still to resolve

SMIL Animation

• To see these demos in Firefox you will need a development build.

• Support for the 'buffered-rendering' property (SVG Tiny 1.2) and 'z-index' property in SVG would have greatly aided the "Affine flow" demo. To mitigate the "reload" issue only the middle slide is actually a live document.
